Homework 10 - I tried to think of something unexpected. My inspiration ultimately probably draws from watching the coyote and roadrunner cartoons as a kid.

Homework 12 - I decided to follow the tutorial, as there were a lot of new techniques for me in the exercise

Homework 14 - I just bought a 3 year old horse. She will be the inspiration for most, if not all of my photos for the remainder of the class, most likely.

Thomas Edison midterm collage

Some of the techniques I utilized were: opacity, text tools, the smudge tool, removing a color channel (Blue) from the Edison light bulb, image rotation, image resizing, fx tools, and paint bucket. This collage was designed to portray how an attitude like Thomas Edison's, combined with a desire to popularize inventing resulted in many of the tools that we take as common place today.

Homework 6 - Typography

Starting with the picture of the cats and quote, I utilized hue and saturation techniques, played with typography, and compositing photos. I wanted to portray the simplicity and importance of making time to play - something that is often done in youth and rarely done as we age.

The image with the 2 gentleman was a tutorial exercize we utilized to learn about typography and utilizing ruler-related tools within Photoshop.

Homework 4 - hue, saturation, and gradients

The rose image was created to visually display the changes that can be made using hue and saturation techniques. I loved how brightly the photo of the roses turned out against a concrete background. The saturation tools allowed me to bleed the colors of the roses and make them more vivid so that the image took on a more perfect, less life-like characteristic. In the original image the roses have more ragged edges and less perfection in the color.

This image actually inspired me to want to make my own greeting cards. We experimented with gradient tools. I used a photo that was initially black and white. I would have preferred to make the yellow in the photo more pronounced but could only do so at the loss of detail in the daisies, so opted not to do so.

Homework 3 - composites

Here we practiced compositing - I took a color photo of a WW2 fighter plane and dropped it into an image ofg the Santa Ynez Valley. I then played with the color, creating a sepia-type tone, so that the image appeared as though it was taken in the 1940s. I had to make the airplane look more grainy using fx effects so it would blend in with the photo of Santa Ynez Valley, which was taken with a disposable camera so already of low quality. This added to the effect of making the image look older, as the resolution would have been worse compared to more recent images.
